Your essay should have this structure:
Title:
1) Introduction
What motivates you to write about your topic? What makes it interesting for you, and the reader? A
reference to for example a newspaper article is sufficient here, or you can use the curriculum book.
Your introduction should end with a research question.
2) Method
(You are only to use secondary sources, not collect data yourself)
When did you search for literature? Which search words did you use? Which databases did you
use? How many hits did you get? What did you do to reduce the number of hits, or maybe you had
to increase it? Did you find an existing literature review on the topic? (If you find an existing

literature review, you can include it in the introduction and use it as basis for your own research
question.)
3) Theoretical framework
You may use one of the five theoretical frameworks as discussed in class, or you can identify your
own:
1. Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) (Davis 1989)
2. IS success model (DeLone and McLean 2003)
3. Diffusion of Innovations (Rogers 2003) (Rogers 2004)
4. Bootstrapping and Adaptation from the Information Infrastructure theory (Hanseth and
Lyytinen 2010)
5. Privacy Calculus model (Dinev et al. 2006)
Present your chosen framework, briefly, preferably by including an illustration (include the
reference and the page number if you copy-paste). Then point to strengths and limitations. Justify
your choice.
4) Findings and analysis
Present, very briefly, the contributions of the papers that you found.
Use your choice of theoretical framework to analyse your findings. Use illustrations, or tables
(Webster & Watson, 2002). Do you see any patterns, for example? -> which brings you over to the
discussion.
5) Discussion
NOW you can make your own claims, but base it on your results, and map it to existing research. If
you want a good grade, this is the place to shine. Reflect critically.
6) Implications
Ask yourself: So what? This is also the place to shine if you want a good grade. For example, you
can point to implications for future research.
7) Contribution
(Warning: this one is hard). A contribution can be to practice, theory, or both (Presthus and
Munkvold 2016). But in this essay, you can go far by reflecting on: what does extant literature say
about your chosen topic? Perhaps you can you list some insights? Did your findings
confirm/extend/contradict/eliminate existing research?
8) Limitations
No piece of research is perfect. Describe some of the limitations with what you have done.
9) Conclusion
The answer to your research question – or, to what extent, you have managed to answer your
research question. Briefly list the results of your literature review. No new information is to come in
the conclusion.

be between 10 and 15.
