Contributions of Steve Jobs to Computer Science

Steve Jobs is often created for changing our perception of computers while also changing people’s lives in the process. An avalanche of tributes and sentiments about Steve Jobs was unleashed when he passed on October 5, 2011. Under the guidance of Jobs, Apple grew to become one of the most successful and admired global brands, with the company having a huge influence and impact on the field of computer science (Storch Rudall, 2012). As such, this discussion aims to demonstrate how Steve Jobs made significant contributions to the world of computer science.
Among the significant contributions that Steve Jobs made to computer science is revolutionizing how music has listened and how different Media can be accessed. Jobs was able to take existing technology and devices such as multitouch gestures and computer mouse, transforming them to become part of one highly integrated system (Deutschman, 2018). These developments demonstrate his deep understanding of how an entire computer system works and can be built or redesigned. Moreover, Steve Jobs could transform digital technology and computes into something usable, accessible as well as highly treasured by ordinary consumers (Deutschman, 2018). This ability is what has made Apple products to be easy and fun to use up to date.
The evidence of Steve Jobs’s contributions to the field of computer science is almost everywhere. Today automobiles and alarm clocks have been redesigned to include iPod connectors (O’Regan, 2013). Moreover, the visual voicemail that was integrated into iPhones has also become a standard. Additionally, diverse industries such as retail and travel have repackaged their products and come up with new offerings while altering sales channels to match or cater to the evolving iPhone desires as well as iPad-wielding consumers (O’Regan, 2013). With Apple making these advances in computer science technology, other computer manufactures have had to come up with better products to cope up with the competition. As such, based on these factors, Jobs’s influence on computer science has been immense.
Steve Job’s influence can also be felt in the field of technical computing. For instance, Steve Jobs was the co-founder of NEXT in 1985 and introduced the NEXT computer in 1988. When Jobs returned to Apple in 1996, Apple purchased NEXT, and he used this computer to build the foundation for the modern OS X operating system (Storch Rudall, 2012). Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the Web inventor, used the NeXT computer to develop the initial browser responsible for the invention of today’s internet (Deutschman, 2018). According to Berners-Lee, the NeXT computer made it quite easy for him to program the World Wide Web client (Deutschman, 2018). These milestones are clear demonstrations of Steve Jobs’s influence on modern computer science.
In conclusion, Steve Jobs’s legacy endures to date owing to the huge contributions he made to the field of computer science. Moreover, the fact that Jobs was very persistent and uncompromising on quality led to Apple’s enormous success, which had a positive impact on the field of computer science. By taking advantage of the existing technology and devices such as multitouch gestures and computer mouse, jobs was able to transform them to become part of one highly integrated system. These milestones are what made inventors like Berners-Lee to use the NeXT computer to program the World Wide Web client. As such, Steve Jobs made significant contributions to the world of computer science.
