Nutrition & Fitness Log Project
This assignment incorporates the following: EDU 135 learning objectives: C, D; AACC Core Competen cies 4 and 5: Communication, Personal Wellness, Self-Management; InTASC Standards: 1, 5, 9, 10;
NAEYC Standards: 1, 2; NAEYC Supportive Skills 1, 3
1. Log-Students will complete a Nutrition and Fitness log for 1 week (7 days) that chroni cles their personal nutrition intake and their personal physical fitness activity. Each day
should be listed separately and should include a nutrition section and a fitness section.
• The nutrition section should include your daily intake for beverages, food, condi ments, toppings, snacks, and supplements/vitamins. Each meal type should be
listed together so that you are able to see all the breakfasts etc. at one time. Each
meal should include the time of day, your mood, who you were eating with, the
location of the meal, and how you felt after eating it. Again, remember to include
beverages.
• The fitness and sleep section should include the time of day, length of time dedi cated to the exercise or fitness activity, state the activity or exercise, location, and
who you were with. Also include a column indicating how much sleep you got
that day.
2. Reflection- At the end of the 7-day period, students will write a detailed summary/cri tique of their nutrition information and fitness activity.
• The nutrition summary/critique should be in paragraph form and start with an
overall summary. Then include 3 strengths that exist regarding nutrition choices
and 3 long term goals that can be made regarding improving your nutrition.
You will also include 3 small changes you can make starting now. Develop each
idea thoroughly. To Help you in this critique, you must reference MyPlate (cite)
and chapter 11 of the textbook (cite). Provide a detailed comparison of MyPlate
to the meals in your log. Specifying how much of the 5 specific food groups you
should get per day compared to what you are actually eating.
• For example, I am a 45-year-old woman who gets 60 minutes of exercise per
day therefore I should consume 55 grams of protein each day. In my log I no ticed that I am only averaging 40 grams each day therefore I should increase my
protein. Protein is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage,
skin, and blood.
• The fitness summary/critique should be in paragraph form and start with an
overall summary. Then include 3 long term goals that can be made regarding im proving fitness levels. Also include 3 small changes you can make starting now.
• The self-Assessment is worth the most points and should be fully developed. Base
your discussion on what has been studied in class regarding quality nutrition

and fitness levels. The self-Assessment should include a relationship between
what you personally demonstrated in your log and what is recommended in
your text (cite). Use course vocabulary words. Develop this section carefully
and demonstrate critical thinking. Answer at least one of these questions in your
self-Assessment:
• What is your caloric intake per day compared to what should it be?
What suggestions do you have to align the two?
• Which nutrients are you lacking in your day and what ideas do you
have to recoup the loss of specific nutrients?
• How much cardio do you get in a day? What should you get? What spe cific suggestions do you have to reach your recommended amount?
• How can you apply the information learned in this project to your pro fession as an educator?
3. Checklist for Success-
 Use APA formatting including title page, headings, citations, and references
 You are allowed to use first person “I” because this is a personal reflection.
 The reflection is the most valuable part of this project (knowledge wise and
points wise). Do a thorough job. Demonstrate critical thinking.
 The reflection should be at least 3 pages in length
 Include citations from MyPlate and from the textbook. You will need a reference
page at the end with these two sources (and any others you may decide to in clude).
 Bold course vocabulary terms. There should be at least 10 in your paper.
4. Submit-The Nutrition & Fitness Log is the capstone project for this course. This is your
opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned this semester and apply it to your
own life. The project is worth 100 points. High quality work is expected. Carefully re view the rubric before uploading your project in the Canvas drop box by the due date
stated in the syllabus.
