The paper outlines the plan of a company-wide Strategic Energy Plan for costs and energy on the electricity and natural gas. The executive committee has given the respective percentages of reduction to be achieved within specified time. The primary assumption of this plan is that the company is relatively going to remain in its current state: the same size of its employees and the expected outcomes among other features with the period covered by the plan.
The cross-functional energy saving team will consist of an electrical engineer, a technician, an IT expert, and a supervisor. The engineer is charged with the role of inspecting all the electrical equipment and appliances, and provides the necessary considerations and changes that will result in energy saving. The technician will work together with the engineer. The IT expert will help in monitoring the computer programs and entire IT system and give advice appropriately on how to reduce the power wastage in the system. The supervisor will coordinate all the activities and ensures that the whole process run smoothly.
The wastage of electricity and natural gas will be figured out through accessing and monitoring all the equipment and appliances that are powered either by electricity or natural gas. The key areas to be given focus first are the large cafeteria because its power consumption must be high due to the high ratings of cooking appliances. The next area of interest will be small manufacturing area which makes prototypes of future products. It will be followed by giving focus to the warehouse which has 150 desktop computers. Lastly, the general building fittings will be considered. The general plan is to reduce the unnecessary time or hours that an electrical equipment or appliance runs. Also, to install the federal grant renewable energy systems which will provide PV and solar thermal energy to relinquish the electricity and gas whenever deemed necessary particularly during the day time. Finally, the plan aims to replace the old electrical and appliances with the most current energy saving ones.
The main changes expected are the installation of renewable energy systems, and replacement of the old gadgets such as the computers and CRT terminals and the lighting lamps. The immediate measurement on the investment will be measured through the wastage operation time saved and the replacement of old appliances with current energy saving ones. These immediate implementations will help in accomplishing the 15% electricity saving within three years. The overtime investment will be measured by the contribution of the renewable energy system. The renewable energy system will rest electricity and natural gas, particularly during the day time. And because it is renewable only maintenance and installation cost are required. The saving of cost will be pretty good because it is a grant. It is through this renewable system that will contribute to the saving natural gas by 25% and save the remaining bit of electricity. As per the issue of being energy efficient, I will select any energy star products rather than gain any incentives to save on energy further.
The plan for keeping every person of the company on board is through educating on the advantages and benefits of energy saving. The momentum will be kept going and excitement created within the company through conducting training periodically, for example, every two months. The employees and staff members who excel in the implementation of the new program will be identified and awarded small tokens as a form of motivation. On matters concerning the executive committee, the plan is to present the program in a clearly in step by step format and provide precise ways on how to save electrical and natural gas energy. The executive committee will be kept in the loop by letting them be the overseer of the program.
