Question Six
Based on the cases of Mr. West and Trevor Smith the effectiveness of correction policies seem to be portrayed negatively (Padfield 2006).Mr. West who was accused and imprisoned for affray for a period of three years had his release early. He had to keep in touch with his parole officer while living in the area the officer would suggest and uphold good conduct. It did not take long for a senior probation officer to give negative reports about him. He was therefore taken back to prison to serve another eight and a half months. Trevor Smith, a rapist, and death threat maker was sentenced to eight years but released after six and a half. He was later to test positive for all drug tests taken while he lived in the hostel. He was then pulled back to prison due to drug use. When measuring the ability of these criminals to re-offend, the chances were high. This reflected negatively on the correction system because it showed that the behavior of these offenders had not been rectified. The research, however, is biased because it mostly focused on offenders who had failed to uphold good conduct. This led the research to lie mostly on the negative side of the correction system. There was less substantive data on prison recall practices on a worldwide level (Padfield 2006). In this case, the research focused more on recalled prisoners in the United States. A side by side comparison of recalled criminals who had reformed afterward would have given a different perspective on the correction system.

Question Seven
After studying the article “Controlled Burn: The Gendering of Stress and Burnout in Modern Policing” I understood the results because they realized how gender shapes police stress and burnout. Police officers experience stress based n the nature of their job requirements, the organizational structure, and interactions with the public. The results showed that women were the most affected by the work environment and exhibited more stress levels (Kurtz 2008). This was caused mostly at the workspace where both White women and African American women agreed that they were being teased. They claimed that gender-related jokes were quite common in the workplace. White women supported the claim by 51% while African American women supported the claim by 36% (Kurtz 2008). However, I feel that the tabulation of the results was complicated and hard to analyze. For an average police officer, it would be challenging or not possible for them to analyze the regression models used. This is in reference to the fact that only a few attended graduate school and their level of education is basic. A graph would have been a much better representation with the models against the variables. Also, it is hard to decipher the contents of table 2 since the numbers are too many and one would need to cross check severally. The paragraphs on the Findings sections could also be made simpler and in Lehman’s language for ease of understanding. Instead of complex definitions, just using a straight point would be better.

Question eight
Bachmann and Schutt guide the reader on essential elements of preparation, discussion, and presentation of a research project when handling crimes and criminal justice. Furthermore, data obtained through surveys lend themselves to quantitative exploration and can be compared to other sources of information (Bachman & Schutt, 2015). The research used for decision making and policy development should be used in an explorative manner. Such that it should be able to substantiate the claims of the research to fulfillment. The research should then be used to make comparisons. If similar traits are identified among cases, then it should be easier to rule out conclusions. Some cases based on research can be broken down into different cases so as to administer the proper policies. The Mismeasure of crime is based on reports by media, international sources and any other sources that contribute to research in crimes. Having information in crime is a basis for modern society as having unemployment, the retail price index, voting intentions, trends in tourism or number of immigrants (Mosher, Miethe, and Hart, 2011). This shows that having these reports is not adequate since the gap is left. That’s where the practitioner policy development comes in. However, he/she cannot rely on their own understanding because they need to learn from past and present cases to formulate proper policies for the future. What can be done to bridge the gap would be for policy development to take into account the findings of media reports. Policy development alone cannot rely on historical methods to enforce rules in an ever-changing world.
