Introduction

Drones have made significant contributions to the advancement of humanity. These technological advancements are helping to increase the efficiency of some of the operations that firms perform. The use of drones has expanded as a result throughout the years, and there is no indication that this trend will be reversed very soon.

Drones

Drones are currently being used to complete a variety of activities. These drones are used in a variety of applications such as disaster relief by assisting in the identification and rescue of victims during natural disasters; land surveying; geological information gathering; filmmaking; monitoring livestock on large tracts of land; packaging of deliveries; and recreation (for example, recreational flying) (Carey 23). It is obvious from these examples that drones are not only employed as a recreational activity, but are also used in commercial settings. Aerial photography and videography are being used to assist farmers in tracking the location of their livestock, to aid geophysics in identifying the location of mineral deposits, to gather footage for filmmakers, and to assist businesses in monitoring their infrastructure such as buildings or pipelines.

Pilots of commercial drones are subject to new rules and regulations. According to these regulations, the majority of unmanned aircraft systems used for commercial drone operations must weigh less than 55 pounds, fly at a lower altitude of less than 400 feet, and travel at a speed of less than 100 miles per hour (Rupprecht, 15). Flights over civilians who are not involved in the operation are not permitted. Drones have been shown to cause interference with planes in some cases. Take, for example, the December 2018 drone attack on London’s Gatwick Airport, which rendered the airport inoperable. As a result, planes were grounded for more than 24 hours as a result of reports of drones flying above the airport. Drone rules, in my opinion, are at an appropriate level of sophistication. This is due to the fact that the regulatory body is continually revising rules in order to combat new risks.

Conclusion

Drones are not only being used for recreational purposes; businesses are increasingly relying on them to improve the efficiency of some of their operations. Despite the fact that drones have provided numerous benefits to people, there have been situations in which they have been a nuisance, such as when they interfere with airplanes. Nonetheless, the drone industry’s governing organization is working hard to find solutions to some of the problems that have arisen as a result of their use.

Drones have transformed the world in a great way. This technology is serving to enhance the efficiency of some tasks businesses engage in. As such, the use of drones has increased over the years, and there is no sign of this trend dying out soon.

Drones

Drones are currently used to accomplish various tasks. For instance, they are used in disaster relief by helping to locate and save lives during natural disasters, surveying land, gathering geological information, filmmaking, monitoring livestock on huge spreads of land, packaging of delivery, and recreational purposes (e.g. recreational flying) etc (Carey 23). From these examples, it is clear that drones are not used just as a hobby, but are also applied in businesses. The drones are helping farmers to know the whereabouts of their livestock, helping geophysics to identify the location of minerals, gathering footage for filmmakers, and assisting companies to monitor their infrastructure such as buildings, pipelines etc.

There are new regulations for commercial drone pilots. Under these laws, most Unmanned Aircraft Systems for the commercial drone are required to fly under 55 pounds, below 400ft and less than 100mph (Rupprecht, 15). Flights over people not involved with the operation are not allowed. There are instances where drones have interfered with planes. I believe the level of regulations of drones is sufficient. This is because the regulatory body is constantly modifying laws to tackle emerging threats.

Drones are not only used for recreation, businesses are increasingly using them to enhance some of their activities. Even though drones have benefited people in various ways, there are instances, where they have presented a nuisance such as interfering with aeroplanes. Nonetheless, the regulatory body of drones is actively coming up with ways of mitigating some of the issues associated with drones.
