C. Executive Summary
The Azlan Tutoring business is a Brunei-based company that offers tutoring services to students for a wide array of subjects. For the past year, the business has operated as a sole proprietorship. However, there has been an increasing demand from the students, and the business is now ready to expand and change its organizational form to include some of Azlan’s friends (Haziq, Aiman, Redha, Izyan, and Adam) who graduated with him from the same college.
The tutoring business was started by Azlan when he decided to become a home tutor after graduating from the International Graduate Studies College. He requested his parents to allow him to use old furniture they stored in their garage and only purchased very few additions such as more chairs and a table. They allowed him to use their guest house as the location and the tutoring business began. The operations of the business have been informal. Azlan has continued to offer tutoring services from his home and has been picking up students from the Brunei area, advertising his services mainly by word of mouth. While being a tutor has been beneficial for filling Azlan’s time, it has also become a reliable source of income.
Of late, the business has expanded to the point that he has been forced to turn down some students or reduce the time he spends with each student. He fears that this could affect the quality of the services he offers and has been considering seeking help from some of his friends who he feels can become good tutors. He also realizes that the more the clients he serviced, then the more reliable and sufficient the revenues received. Increasing the number of tutors will increase the profit margin. He has decided to make efforts to expand to increase his income and maintain the quality of services offered. His friends have agreed to be part of the expansion, but they must first review the progress of the business before, and make plans regarding the new business location and how to effectively manage the funds they have collectively raised. This information will all be included in the business plan that will act as the internal guide towards the expansion.
• Mission statement
Azlan’s Tutoring business exists with the aim of helping students reach their desired academic heights. Its mission is to be considered a high quality tutoring company that creates fun and interesting interactions between the student and the teacher that go beyond academics into the development of a wholesome career-minded student.
To achieve this, the business will take a unique approach to teaching that helps them understand better the subject matter that the curriculum requires them to master and retain. The business offers focused tutoring and personalized attention to the students (Davison-Fujioka, 2011). The business ensures that the students develop the tools they need to continue having success in their fields of study. Through the tutoring services, students make productive use of their time instead of engaging in other activities that would possibly mislead them from their agenda, of securing a bright future. The success of the business has been because of the ability of the tutor to meet the needs of the students, the parents and the teachers, such that when the clients and those related to them experience academic success, then the business has achieved its agenda (Nkambou, Bourdeau & Mizoguchi, 2010).
• Products and services
Azlan’s tutoring business covers a wide range of academic subjects for students of all levels beginning from pre-school to higher levels. He sets up sessions where he tutors one student at a time. During the first five private sessions, he also makes sure to gauge and assess each student to determine their academic ability. If any students, from the same grade, have the same intellectual ability, he reduces the number of private tutoring sessions to include discussion groups, which have also been effective learning avenues (Brennan, Canning & McDowell, 2010). While the private sessions have been effective for intense individual Helpance, the group sessions have also proven beneficial because they increase interaction between students enabling them to share ideas, helped to develop a team-based approach to learning and also reduced the economic costs for the tutor.
Besides following the syllabus and curriculums offered in schools, Azlan has also been offering an extensive collection of past exams to act as a reference for teaching materials and Help the students to prepare for their exams (Lilien & Grewal, 2012). In particular, the business has adopted the Systematic Analysis Framework. This is a unique problem-solving approach in which the students are taught a new technique or approaching the topics taught at school. This approach helps to make the seemingly hard concepts easier to understand. It differs from what other tutors offer, whose strategies are mainly aimed at answering the immediate questions that the students may have and not necessarily interested in helping the students to develop problem-solving skills that they may use even in future applications.
Tutoring services are offered for students mainly residing in the Brunei area. The main recipients of these services are elementary and high school students mainly for subjects such as English, mathematics, economics, calculus, accounting, statistics, finance, and business. These services are also extended to students taking undergraduate classes or community college courses. Tutoring sessions tend to insist more on empowering students to have long-term problem-solving and effective study habits (Low & Azirah, 2012). The services are offered every day beginning from 8:00 am to 9:00 am from Monday to Sunday except for Fridays between 12 noon and 2:00 pm when everyone is expected to be praying, as per the law (Postiglione & Tan, 2007).
• Current status
Currently, Azlan’s tutoring business is operated and controlled by Azlan. He brings a wealth of information and academic excellence that he achieved in school, making it get into an international college that has a high academic requirements for entry. He also has a proven record of tutoring since high school where he tutored students of lower classes during his free time. It was this experience that gave Azlan the insight that he could excel at tutoring, besides the fact that it gave him joy and fulfillment to pass on what he knew to others. He did that also during his time at the University, where he and his friends held discussion groups and helped each other with academic work. Azlan decided to start tutoring as a business, starting at home, and offering guidance for many subjects. Due to Azlan’s connections with tutors from his previous schools and with parents around his home area, he was able to get a number of students to tutor and this has continued to grow until now when he feels that he needs the help of his college friends to meet the demand, maintain the quality of services offered and also to help each other earn a living.
Beginning from the time when the business has existed, Azlan has been able to cater for his financial needs, give support to his parents, Help some of the students that have needed financial help for school supplies and also had substantial savings. He has also purchased various tutoring aids such as computers, projectors, and books among others. This new job has taken up his time, and he feels that he does not need to look for work elsewhere, he intends to make it his full-time source of employment (Oxford, 2014). With the intended expansion, this business is bound to bring more financial gains for both he and his friends.
• Legal status and ownership
The business has been operating as a sole proprietorship under the control and full ownership of Azlan. He is yet to formally register his business, and in case of expansion, it would require that he complies with the laws that require all businesses be registered (Vienne & Lanier, 2015). It is foreseen that the best company structure would be a Limited Liability Company because this structure offers the entrepreneur’s liability protection of their individual assets.
D. Company Description
The tutoring business will expand and become a fully-fledged company with a limited liability company structure. It will be a joint ownership between Azlan, Haziq, Aiman, Redha, Izyan and Adam who will all be working as tutors according to their abilities and areas of specialization. Adam and Haziq will additionally act as the online services marketers where they will run the business’ website and profiles on various social media platforms (Bray & Lykins, 2012). The profits will be shared out in the ratios of their contribution to the initial funds, but they will also be receiving a special bonus for every new student each member brings to the business.
• Company’s objectives/goals
 Achieve full hourly capacity for all its tutors in the next six months.
 Begin offering online tutoring services within six months after the establishment of the new company.
 Increase advertising both online and locally to acquire at least four new clients monthly.
 Partner with at least an additional teacher or professor per month to have access to referrals.
 Increase the number of students at least by 50 percent each year.
 Monthly revenues of at least $2,000 per person.
• Products and services
The company will offer tutor services for local students and any other that could have access to the online services throughout Brunei. The physical location will be small for a start due to the limited capital that cannot enable the team to hire a large space. However, this new location will be able to hold at least 25 students at a time. In case the demand is as high as expected, where the team will be tutoring up to 50 students a day, then the head of operations will come up with a schedule where each student will be allocated an arrival time to prevent congestion. The company will continue to offer these services to students beginning with those in pre-school, primary school, secondary school up to those in colleges and universities (Bray & Lykins, 2012). These services will be offered every day between 8:00 am and 9:00 am daily except on Fridays between 12 pm and 2 pm when the law has stipulated that Bruneians should go for prayers.
The process of marketing the services will involve, for many clients, an informal meeting with them in the form of networking during casual gatherings and community meetings (Fletcher, Bell & McNaughton, 2004). This approach calls for a soft sales approach where the tutor will show interest in helping tackle the challenges that the potential client is experiencing. If the client shows interest in the services, then the tutor will follow up by giving them the company’s contacts and perhaps sending the clients a reminder email within three days. If necessary, a follow-up call will be made and depending on its outcome, a one-on-one meeting will be arranged. After this, most people usually want up to a week to discuss it with the students or other members of the family that will be affected. After the week is over, another call will be set and if the feedback is positive, a meeting with the student will be arranged to discuss their schedule. Payments are made after every five tutoring sessions. This process is expected to take approximately 15 days on average.
Work with each student will start with a diagnosis of their problem, which could be a learning disability, attitude problems in regard to different subjects, deficiency in some skills or other problems related to the examination period such as nervousness, fear, and anxiety that could lead to underperformance (Hutt & Speh, 2013). Based on the assessments that the tutors will perform on each child, they will sit down together and come up with customized programs for each student. After the introductory first eight individualized sessions, they will again assess each child’s improvement and based on the data collected, those that have gotten to the same intellectual level will be allocated to discussion groups and taught together. They will also have a chance to hold discussions by themselves, without the tutor’s intervention. Those who are not yet ready for group discussions will be taught privately until they have made the required improvement.
Subjects that will be covered include mathematics, English, physics, economics, calculus, accounting, statistics, finance, and business. The tutors will also be responsible for preparing the students for the exams through thorough revision of the class material and extensive discussion of questions covered in the past exams. The company will adopt Azlan’s approach to teaching where he used the Systematic Analysis Framework that ensured that the students learn how to approach concepts and questions that seem difficult (Albert & Sanders, 2003). This technique is beneficial since it can also be applied in real life situations. In essence, the tutoring company will also be equipping the students with life skills that are typically not covered in school.
Besides academic Helpance, there will also be sessions where students will be encouraged to speak regarding other problems they may be facing, whether at home or in school, which could be affecting them socially or psychologically and would potentially affect their studies (Ellis, 2010). The tutors will make an effort to provide solutions, but if the problem requires the intervention of the teacher or the parents, then they will be called in to help. Tutors will also offer academic and career advice to ensure that the students remain focused and therefore work even harder to excel academically.
• Current status
The team of six has established a building with a large studio apartment that is going to serve as the location for the new business. This location is suitable not only for its proximity to four schools but also because it is close to a children’s drop-off point, such that it will be easy for children to come from school and get into the class, without wasting much time. The building adjacent to the one holding the new business location is home to various large businesses and offices where a number of parents from around the area work (Jeffreys, 2011). They will be able to access and assess the kind of tutoring offered and possibly bring their children. It is also a mile away from Azlan’s home and therefore the business will not have to lose any of the students he had been working with.
The new company is currently holding $5000 to be used to buy the most needed furniture, equipment and to pay rent for the first three months, $350 per month. The tutors will be using their own computers but a projector will be purchased to be used during group discussions. The budget will also cater for evening snacks for the students and the tutors coffee and muffins or biscuits. Other supplies needed will be those needed for cleaning and the tutors will be forced to clean the apartment themselves before the company can make revenue enough to enable them to hire help.
• Legal status and ownership
The company will take up the structure of a Limited Liability Company (LLC), which is a company structure that combines the characteristics of a partnership and a corporation (Glynn, 2012). The partners will enjoy limited liability but the partners will be held liable for their own civil wrongs or torts. The company will have a separate legal existence separate from the partners with the right to own or sell property, institute lawsuits and hire employees. The partners will also enjoy flexibility in taxation where they will choose the form of taxation that suits their business (Barringer, 2015). Lastly, there is simplicity in operation and documentation. The members will not be required by law to hold annual meetings and record keeping is less cumbersome than in the case of corporations.
E. Industry Analysis
Today, people are hiring tutors in various areas of life in the skills needed can be taught and acquired such as in academics, athletics, hobbies, computer use and others. While many independent tutors require that the students come to their homes, others go to their clients’ homes while other will use some space in a rented location, or in a school (Barringer, 2015). The demand for academic tutoring has increased because of the increased emphasis that has been placed on the performance and grades required for higher levels of education. In addition, learning has continued to become complex seeing that some content that was formerly taught in colleges is now taught in high school. Also, the increased population in the country has made the classrooms to become crowded, and the individual attention that many students require may find that at the end of the learning period, the children are not sufficiently ready to take up learning at higher levels (Bangs, 2002). Parents have realized that their children need more than just the typical classroom instruction.
Define the firm’s industry
The tutoring business belongs to the education industry, which is part of the overall service industry. As students across the globe are increasingly enrolling in higher education courses, tutoring them to be ready for this milestone has become a prime method for boosting traditional learning (Blackwell, 2011). One of the factors driving this has been the entrance examinations, which are critical for gaining admission into different colleges and universities. It is now more important than ever to pass these examinations particularly now that the competition to get access higher learning is at an all-time high (Finch, 2013). Parents and students across the globe are willing, now more than ever, to invest their time or money to tutoring to gain a competitive edge against the competition.
Industry size
The global private tutoring market that takes into account all educational levels, as well as language and vocational schooling, is already a multi-billion dollar industry, and the Global Industry Analysts project that the revenues generated from it will reach $102.8 billion by 2018 (Pinson, 2015). The analysts found that the larger part of the tutoring market is centered in Europe, United States, and the Asia-Pacific.

Figure 1: Graph showing the growing number of tutors businesses across the globe (number of businesses against the year)
In Brunei alone, there has been an increasing evidence of widespread use of private tutoring. The government recently commissioned a study of private tutoring and the effect it has been having on students. The study involved university students who were asked to narrate their experiences in lower classes such as high school and whether or not they used the services of a tutor to help them get into university. The sample size was 180, composed of 98 female and 82 male students (Lewis, 2013). Students were asked questions about their family and educational backgrounds, private tutoring services they received during their final year of high school and their perceptions towards private tutoring. Of the respondents, 87% had attended public schools while 13% attended private schools. 66% of them had sought Helpance from a tutor in their last year of secondary school, and this proved to be higher than the number that did the same during the previous survey conducted (Lewis, 2013). 53% of the students reported having sought these services earlier on, even in lower classes. Mathematics and physics were the most popular subjects that students sought help. Interestingly, boys were more likely to seek help in these subjects in comparison to the girls seeing that 75% of the boys and 48% of the girls took tutoring (Lewis, 2013).
Many of these students felt that the tutoring sessions has a large impact on their studies and performance in the university entry exams. The study found that the use of tutors has exploded in the recent years due to different factors. There has been the adoption of new technologies in various educational practices among tutors that make learning fun and involving (Lewis, 2013). There have been increased enrollments among students and a rising competition among them increasing the need to excel in competitive exams. The standard education has also been found unable to address the unique needs of each student. Some schools in Brunei are also understaffed or may have outdated school facilities (Woodward, 2010).
Industry growth rate
The tutoring industry has grown by almost 40 percent in the past eight years, adding a significant amount of income into the economy. Nationally, thousands of people now say that tutoring is their primary job, with some earning as much as $1400 per week (O’Donnell, Reeve & Smith, 2012). This number could be higher because the data collected did not include the teachers who work as tutors during their free time. Education critics claim that this growth is an indictment of the performance of schools across the country but the popular belief across the country is that this growth has been that the parents are seeking extra benefits for their children. Annually, they spend approximately $2.6 billion dollars in tutor wages alone (Griffiths, 2014). The parents are taking more responsibility for the educational outcomes of their children. Thousands of families are paying approximately $70 per hour and even more and many tutoring schools often have a long list of waiting parents who are prepared to do what it takes for their children to receive academic Helpance (Gordon, 2005). Coaching schools are now taking up online platforms to increase their reach and also opening more brick and mortar locations.
Industry trend
There has been an industrial shift in learning. The new generations of learners have distinct characteristics in comparison to those of previous generations. They have an empirical approach to learning, have a short span concentration, prefer learning through graphics rather than reading text and approach knowledge in a random process through hypertext approaches (Gordon, 2005). The learners are also used to learning through games and interactivity, function best when networked and are also used to having access to a huge amount of information.

Figure 2:Graph showing industry earning trends 2009-2013
Industry long term prospects
Opportunities in the Brunei tutoring field for teachers, students, tech firms, educational institutions and businesses, in general, are bound to increase. Tutoring has been listed as one of the country’s industries that is performing best with an annual growth rate of 7% annually (Popescu et al, 2016). With millions of students working to have a chance in higher education levels in the current strained school systems, the demand for individualized instruction is expected to get higher in the conceivable future. Educators and tutors should consider expansion plans to meet the demand expected in the years to come. Spending among parents on tutor services is expected to grow by between 7 and 10 percent (Popescu et al, 2016).
Integrated online learning resource and online tutoring tools are bound to increase in the market as more tutors take their businesses to online platforms to increase their reach. Although technology such as Skype is set to increase access to remote tutoring services, one-on-one tutoring is still expected to be a significant part of the tutoring market as personal attention and guidance is still highly valued by the market.
Lastly, because of the expected increase of the tutoring businesses, tutors will begin to come up with ways to differentiate their services. The methodology and the perceived results of the tutoring sessions will, therefore, play a great role in the branding of a tutoring business.

• Firm’s target market
The company’s target market is the parents and the students. Most parents are more focused on their careers and may not have time to tutor their children or help them with their assignments. These parents often seek help with this and do not mind paying whichever price is offered for their services. The students are also a target market because some may be focused on scaling the academic height and will request their parents to pay for tuition services. The company also recognizes that teens will always want to do what their friends are doing. If a number of friends are attending classes after school, then the others will want to do the same. These two groups can mostly be accessed through social media platforms. Using Google ads on sites frequented by the parents and their children or issuing out flyers during community events.
• Its customers
The customers in this industry are mainly parents and the students. These persons can be distinguished by observing their demographics, lifestyle, behavior and scope. Demographics will include their education, gender, age, occupation of the parents and nationality. Examples of demographics to consider are the customers whose family income is at least $80,000 and may have extra income to spend on tuition, where one or both parents holds a degree and where both or one parent is computer literate. These are likely to seek the services of a tutor than other members of the society. The lifestyle covers the hobbies, leisure activities, interests and what is considered valuable. For example, students that are planning to attend university, parents who desire that their children attend university and students that are lagging behind in school are potential customers. Behavior refers to what would possibly trigger the customers to take an interest in the tutoring services. For example, observing the anxiety among parents regarding the demands that have been placing on their time and the competition for university admissions. Lastly, the scope refers to the work patterns of the target parents. For example, families around the location of the tutoring company are likely to prefer receiving the services from the actual location rather than through the internet.
• Its competitors
The company will be competing with large players such as the Jumanji Tuition School, started in 2005. This is a government approved Private educational institution that provides Kindergarten, Primary, secondary to Pre-university tuition services. Besides online teaching, the Academy also has two physical locations in Kiulap and Sungai Tilong. There are also other tuition businesses operated by private individuals. Some students also turn to online tutoring services offered by persons and companies in other countries. However, the industry is unregulated in Brunei, and this means that there are minimal barriers to entry. However, parents who are seeking to hire a tutor for their children look out for the tutor’s qualifications, the period within which he has gained experience and their ability to work with the child or youth. The most important factor of all is the quality of education offered and the methods of tutoring used and the effect they will have on the student.
• How it will compete in the marketplace
Since the release of the results of a survey stating the growth and potential of the tutoring business, many tutors are bound to come up while the existing businesses will expand. This means that there will be added competition that the new company has to beat to succeed. Our main differentiator will be on the quality of education that we will give to our clients (Popescu et al, 2016). All the tutors have been to one of the highest-ranked universities in the country and were the most outstanding students in terms of academics. This means that they have the capacity and ability to deliver quality instruction to our customers.
The second differentiator will be the offering supportive services such as guidance and counselling, career advice and any other Helpance that the students may need (Harrison, 2010). At some point, Azlan has had to purchase school supplies for needy students. The new company intends to continue this trend.
The third differentiator will be that besides having much knowledge in regard to the subject matter in academics, the tutors will be required to take a month training on how to be a tutor. This is because tutoring is much more than passing knowledge (Bhaskara, 2013). They will have to know how to deal with the students and how to approach the parents or the teachers when the need arises, for the benefit of the students.
The fourth differentiator will be the prices that the company will offer (Harrison, 2010). The company will charge 45 dollars per hour for the first 10 sessions which will require thorough assessment and individual attention. Each session will take 90 minutes. After the 10 sessions, the fees will be reduced to 35 dollars per hour for the next 10 sessions and after that, the student will only be paying 30 dollars per hour. This pricing is unlike others in the market whose prices range from 30 to 80 dollars per hour, where sometimes parents have to pay high fees for low quality services. Our prices however, are affordable and the clients are assured of high quality tutoring using the latest and most effective student engagement methodologies. The prices stated could be revised if the tutors collectively agree on it.
• Its potential sales and market share
The business has a great potential for growth. Azlan already secured 15 regular students who are still in primary school and might be part of the program even when they have gotten into secondary school. The new location where the company will be established is in an area that has four schools in the neighborhood but there are no tutors around (Goh, 2012). The classes in these schools have many students and the teachers do not work as part-time tutors which could only mean that tutoring services would be welcomed. For now, marketing efforts will be concentrated in that area but once the company has secured clients in the area, the tutors will then shift focus to looking for clients outside the area.
G. Products/Services
Product’s features and benefits
Tutoring services have various benefits (Mintzer & Entrepreneur Press, 2009):
 The student gets help understanding difficult concepts taught in class
 Individual attention helps determine other problems that may exist apart from those related to academics.
 Tutors offer mentorship in terms of career decisions and other life decisions.
 Students are likely to be more disciplined.
 Improves the ability of a student to retain what they have learnt at school.
 Students read ahead such that they will not be left behind when the teacher teaches in class.
 It is a chance for students to interact and form bonds with others.
 The students are in a safe controlled environment instead of by themselves.
what needs or problems they address in the market.
The tutoring services are meant to help the students prepare for the exams by helping them understand the content that is taught in class. Some may be preparing for university entry exams and considering the competition for these slots in the present day, a student needs to score high grades to make it to university (Goh, 2012). Other times, a student that needs individualized attention even in lower classes may not be getting it in school and having a tutor who caters for the academic needs of the student may help them reach their potential.
Tutoring also addresses other needs besides those related to academic achievement. The students will have a mentor, a person they can look up to, in regard to career decisions, how to deal with challenges at school and at home or even social issues (Orr, 2009). The parents’ concerns regarding the safety of their children are also addressed. Some children have to be home alone before their parents can come from work and this is worrisome. Attending tuition after school will give the children a place to be with others and interact outside the school environment and their parents can pick them on their way home. This way, the concerns of both the student and the parents are addressed.

Pictures showing the tutoring activities at the new company
how it is produced, the materials required, and the type of labor needed
The resources needed for the business are computers for information storage, projectors to be used during group discussions, a collection of past exams for various subjects, tables and chairs, papers and pens, electricity connection, cups and plates.
The students sit down with the teachers, discuss problematic areas with the students for the subjects that they have sought help, the tutor will then assess the student’s level of skill in the problematic areas and those that are not, and depending on the assessment, the tutors come up with a lesson plan to suit the needs of the student and also in line with their availability (Orr, 2009). Records will be kept of the days and time that the student showed up, the subjects tutored, progress observed and areas that may require additional effort. Parents will receive copies of these reports after every 10 sessions. The student will be asked to give their feedback and this too will be presented to the parents. If the feedback is positive, then the parent and students will be requested to write recommendations on the company website.

The business will be situated at Azlan’s neighborhood. The location is suitable because it is some distance away from the noise of the town and other distractions that could impede learning. A large studio apartment that is going to serve as the location for the new business.
Elements that attracted us to this location
This location is suitable, not because of its proximity to four schools but also because it is close to a children’s drop-off point, such that it will be easy for children to come from school and get into the class, without wasting much time. The buildings adjacent to the new business location is home to various large businesses and offices where a number of parents from around the area work (Jeffreys, 2011). From here, they will be able to access and assess the kind of tutoring offered and possibly bring their children. The location was also attractive because it is only a mile away from Azlan’s home and therefore the business will not have to lose any of the 25 students he had been working with.

– Process to identify the location
The process to identifying this location involved travelling to seek various real estate agents who showed us a variety of houses. At one point, the team even got an offer by a school manager allowing them to use his classes, at a relatively low price. However, the classes were only available on the weekends which is unsuitable because the partners intend the business to run seven days a week, 24 hours a day particularly when the business has acquired students on the online platform.
It was then that the team found the studio apartment. The apartment is large and has all the supplies a business would require such as plenty of clean water. There are two public schools and two private schools in the neighborhood. The business is also located at a place where there are government offices around and many parents work here. Assuming that all of them hold degrees, they are part of the target population mentioned earlier.
– Traffic Pattern in that location
The building is located at a street that students use on their way to school from home. There is also a drop off point for student who attend other schools besides the four schools in the neighborhood. This means that there is traffic around the business, showing potential to attract students for tutoring services (Finch, 2013). The parents working in adjacent government buildings are also part of the traffic, increasing the potential clientele.
– Competition in that location
There are no other professional tutors in this location. However, there are some teachers who offer tutoring services for their students after school and during the weekend at school premises. This could pose a threat to the new company seeing that the students are already acquainted to their teachers and the teacher knows the problematic areas in which the student needs help. The parents will opt to pay the teacher, rather than seek the services of a tutor that they do not know yet. It will help if the Company will build a reputation of excellence that will enable the parents to trust the tutoring business and its effectiveness in identifying problematic areas and helping resolve them.

J – Marketing Plan
While much marketing efforts will be directed towards students from kindergarten, primary and secondary school, college and graduate students will also be part of the target market.
Marketing Strategy
The Company expects the tutors to engage in various activities to source for clients. They include:
a. Networking in the community by attending community events
When building a business, face-to-face relationship building is important because it builds trust. Tutors will attend networking activities where they expect that parents of either kindergarten primary and secondary school students are expected to be in attendance (Finch, 2013). The Company intends to be an active participant in the community and to be seen as the expert in engaging students in learning.
b. Putting up posters in shops, cafes and school drop-off points
Posters, with tear-offs will be placed in strategic locations where the target market is likely to be.
c. Social Media
the Company will have profiles on different social media platforms that will be used to engage people and attract them to the business (Glynn, 2012). A profile on Linkedin will be important for engaging professionals after getting their contacts because it gives a platform where the business can fully advertise their services in detail. Most professionals, the parents, prefer networking on Linkedin to using personal social media profiles.

-Positioning
The Company intends for the people, particularly those in the target market to perceive it as the best supplement to the material taught in class. We want the customers to know that they or their children are in safe hands, hands that will propel them to academic success. Just like out involvement in community activities, the Company will be involved in more than plain teaching. The tutors will be mentors and will offer advice and Helpance in regard to career choice. Overall, the Company seeks to establish a reputation as a high quality tutoring company that creates fun interactions between the student and the tutor, with a focus on academic and career growth.
-Points of differentiation
Currently, there are no other professional tutoring companies providing tutoring services except for a few that are ran by teachers in schools, but only on weekends. This gives the company a competitive edge that will help it acquire and retain clients for the long haul. The knowledge that each of the tutors has, coupled with the experience that Azlan has been having in the field will enable the company to provide specialized services that surpass any form of competition. To be specific, factors that will set the business above competition include:
1. One-on-one tutor and student interaction
2. Highly read tutors
3. The experience that Azlan has had during his time working by himself.
4. Competitively low prices.
5. Alliances with teachers from neighboring schools
6. Strategic location.
7. Online presence
8. Flexible schedules.
9. 24/7 availability
10. Large venue that can host many students at any one time.
-Price
Each session is expected to take a maximum of 90 minutes. The company will charge 45 dollars per hour for the first 10 sessions which will require thorough assessment and individual attention. After the 10 sessions, the fees will be reduced to 35 dollars per hour for the next 10 sessions and after that, the student will only be paying 30 dollars per hour. The prices are low compared to others offered by other tutors, making the services we offer affordable. The prices stated could be revised if the tutors collectively agree on it.
-Promotional Mix
The promotional mix will include networking on community events, advertising on the website and the internet, maintaining an online presence on social media, putting up posters and liaising with teachers (Glynn, 2012).
-Sales Process
The selling process, for the most part, will require an informal meeting with the potential clients, the parents, the teachers or both, during community meetings, networking, or casual gatherings with associates. This marketing strategy calls for a soft sales approach. The tutors will not sell the services initially, but will instead first show concern and interest in helping out solve the challenges that the potential client is experiencing (Ellis, 2010). Once the client show interest in the tutor’s services, then he will ask for their email address or phone number after which the client will be contacted and told about the services offered, including the prices charged. After this, a meeting will be arranged, ideally, with both the student and the parent. The company manager will outline the tutoring services offered and ask for the sale. It is expected that most parents will need up to one week to talk the issue over with a spouse or a friend. After the seven days, the client will be ready to buy. A meeting will be set up with the student to identify problematic areas and for a general assessment of their ability. The information derived will be recorded since it will be the basis for Assessment in the classes to follow. Payment will be made after every five tutoring sessions (Ellis, 2010). The complete sales process, from contact to the start of the tutoring classes will take 14 days, on average.
-Distribution Strategy
Services will be offered on-site and on the virtual location. Those who can access the location will be requested to come to the apartment while international students or those that live far off can be tutored online.

L – Conclusion

The Azlan Tutoring Business, a Brunei-based company that offers tutoring services has operated as a sole proprietorship. However, there has been an increasing demand from the students, and the business is now ready to expand and change its organizational form to include some of Azlan’s friends (Haziq, Aiman, Redha, Izyan, and Adam) who graduated with him from the same college. He believes that increasing the number of tutors will increase the profit margin. The more the clients he serviced, then the more reliable and sufficient the revenues received. His friends have agreed to be part of the expansion, but they must first review the progress of the business before, and make plans regarding the new business location and how to effectively manage the funds they have collectively raised. This information will all be included in the business plan that will act as the internal guide towards the expansion.
The new business will operate as a Limited Liability Company that allows for partnership and the partners enjoy limited liability in case of losses. The partners have raised 5000 dollars to be used to cover rent for the first three months and to purchase supplies needed such as computers and projectors among others. The business intends to stand out from the competition through one-on-one tutor and student interaction, it has highly read tutors, competitive low prices, online presence, flexible schedules, strategic location and round-the-clock availability. All these efforts are intended to lay the foundation of how things are to be done and to establish a reputation as a high quality tutoring company that creates fun interactions between the student and the tutor, with a focus on academic and career growth.
